With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Chakmakis has litigated high value and complex cases to jury trial involving personal injury, automobile accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, slip and fall, medical malpractice, dog attack, and pedestrian incidents.  He has also tried cases involving defective products liability, fraud, design defects, intellectual property infringement, breach of contract, real estate, commercial negligence, and business torts; in state and federal court, and against multiple government entities.

George originally gained valuable experience from the “other side” of personal injury cases, as an insurance defense attorney in a large Southern California law firm.  Prior to founding Chakmakis & Associates, George worked in the Los Angeles offices of Gilbert, Kelly, Crowley & Jennett where he primarily represented large corporations and insurance companies in litigation matters.  He founded his own law office in 1995 to enforce and protect the rights of injury victims.  Mr. Chakmakis also represents injured seaman in Jones Act cases and practices all areas of aviation law.  He uses his knowledge and experience as an instrument rated pilot to navigate the complex issues that are part of every aviation and airplane incident and transaction, including the prosecution and defense of pilots under the FAA rules and regulations.
Mr. Chakmakis has extensive pre-trial experience also, including hundreds of depositions.  The deposition is a pre trial proceeding that allows attorneys to cross examine witnesses and parties under oath, to gather vital information, and learn about other witnesses and evidence.  An experienced deposition attorney is vital and important because often the case is won or lost at the deposition stage.  George has taken and defended depositions of defendants, corporate officers, witnesses, and experts in the fields of medicine, accident reconstruction, employment issues, bio mechanics, design defects, defective products, law enforcement, and other specialties.  In addition, George represents white collar criminal defendants in state and federal cases involving copyright and trademark infringement, business licenses, and other professional issues.v
In 2012, Mr. Chakmakis was honored to be a guest speaker at the largest annual attorneys’ convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Chakmakis has also acted as Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court.  He sat on the bench in Metro Court, Van Nuys, Huntington Park, Culver City, and Beverly Hills; and has heard cases including contract disputes, personal injuries, and traffic.  George is also a member and panel attorney for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.  He represents pilots and victims in cases involving airplane crashes, FAA investigations and prosecutions, repair shop negligence, and airspace violations.
George is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles and Southwestern Law School.  He is also an instrument rated pilot and enjoys flying and cycling in his free time.

Edward G. BerghinoOf Counsel
Mr. Edward Berghino has been fighting for victims of injuries and other injustices since 1994. His jury trial experience includes issues of personal injury, premises liability, slip and fall, and government tort liability. Mr. Berghino has represented clients in the Superior Courts of Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego. He has also represented clients in Federal Court. He is a long time member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and the former Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association (LATLA).
Mr. Berghino has served as Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Courts. He presided on a wide variety of cases including traffic trials, arraignments, small claims, injury, and contract disputes. He sat on the bench in many courthouses including: Beverly Hills Courthouse, Santa Monica Courthouse, Van Nuys Courthouse, Metro Court Downtown Los Angeles.
Ed has litigated personal injury cases against negligent automobile drivers, grocery stores, cities, the State of California (CALTRANS), and other defendants. He has taken numerous depositions of adverse parties, witnesses, and experts. The deposition is an important part of a court case and the preparation for trial. The deposition allows attorneys to cross examine witnesses and parties, gather vital information, learn about other witnesses and evidence; and often the case is won or lost at the deposition stage. The deposition witness is sworn in before testimony, and bound by the law to tell the truth, or be subject to the penalties of perjury. We have the deposition questions and answers recorded by a State of California certified court reporter. An experienced deposition attorney is essential against the insurance companies that are trying to avoid the payment of damages.
Mr. Berghino is a United States Marine. He served during the Vietnam War. Ed continues to proudly wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor insignia as a tribute to the corps.
Ed uses his experience as an avid skier and former ski shop owner in Big Bear, California, to provide superior results for victims with major injuries, such as broken bones, spinal injuries, and head injuries. Ed uses his knowledge of automobile mechanics and engines to fully evaluate and analyze automobile accident cases. He has re-built several vintage automobiles including a 1935 Morgan three wheeler. He knows how to evaluate property damage, accident dynamics, and forces of impact to get the most out of every automobile accident claim. His experience with doctors, surgeries, and all aspects of medicine, makes him especially qualified to handle all levels of personal injury cases from herniated discs, lumbar, cervical, and thoracic disc bulges, spinal compression injuries, spine stenosis, whiplash, muscle spasm, radiating pain, numbness, and headaches, to wrongful death, paralysis, loss of arms and/or legs.
Mr. Berghino has regularly participated in the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles’ annual seminar for over 15 years. The CAALA seminar in Las Vegas is the largest annual convention for trial attorneys representing injury victims. The annual seminar includes 4 days of intensive classes, mock trials, meetings, and lectures including Q&A sessions with Los Angeles Superior Court and Federal Court judges. This annual seminar provides a unique opportunity to sharpen skills, and stay up to date with the latest trends in law and technologies.
